Integrated Myofacial Therapy IMFT in Glasgow

Integrated Myofascial Therapy (IMFT) is a gentle yet powerful hands-on approach that applies sustained pressure to the fascia, helping to relieve pain and improve mobility. This technique not only addresses the specific area of discomfort but also examines other parts of the body that may be influencing the issue.
What is the Fascial System?
The fascial system is a complex web of fibres that encases and supports our bones, muscles, and organs. This remarkable structure extends from the top of your head all the way to your fingertips and toes, influencing every part of your body. The texture of fascia can differ significantly depending on the location; some areas are flexible and mobile, while others are denser and more rigid. This variety in fascia enables our muscles and other structures to move smoothly, allowing us to experience movement that is both free and without pain.
How Integrated Myofascial therapy works and where it can be helpful.
During the treatment, the therapist detects fascial restrictions and applies light sustained pressure to facilitate the release of the fascia.

While the following list is not comprehensive, Integrated Myofascial Therapy (IMFT) can help with

  • Physical and emotional trauma
  • Symptoms of fibromyalgia
  • Limited function and range of motion.
  • Headaches
  • General aches and pains
  • TMJ (Temporomandibular joint) discomfort or jaw pain/Teeth clenching
  • Teeth clenching
  • Rehabilitation after surgery
  • Recovery from injuries
  • During your session, you will be comfortably positioned on a therapy table the moves are performed directly on your skin without the use of oils or creams. We suggest wearing shorts for comfort, and if you're female, a vest top along with a regular bra (there’s no need for a sports bra). Throughout the treatment, you will alternate between lying down and sitting on the massage table. The process is gentle, painless, and remarkably effective. It’s important to remember that responses to IMFT can differ among individuals. You may experience some involuntary twitching during the session, which often indicates that your muscles are releasing tension and your fascia is becoming more adaptable. Many find the experience profoundly relaxing, and it can lead to noticeable reductions in pain and improvements in mobility over the following days. Additionally, it’s worth mentioning that emotions might surface during the treatment; you may feel heightened emotions for a short time afterwards as you process these experiences. Keep in mind that each person’s journey is unique!
