| | Q | Are herbs safe? | | A | We fundamentally believe they are safe; provided they are given with full advice on their use by a suitably trained and experienced person. They should only be used for the purpose they are given. Obviously anyone can develop knowledge by reading, however discussing the problem with experienced people can always help. |
| | Q | Should I ask my GP before taking herbs. | | A | Herbs can be taken for a wide range of reasons; as a pleasant tea, to support a healthy lifestyle or to treat illness. If a customer is ill and wishes to treat themselves with herbs then we often advise them to consult with their GP. However we are regularly told in the shop that the customer would rather not tell their GP, as their GP believes herbs are dangerous. As in all professions, different people have different views. There are a number of GP's who are happy using herbs as part of their own treatments, or give excellent advice when the patients themselves have chosen to use herbal medicine. However, some GP's do not believe that herbal medicine works. A very few believe that they know more about herbal medicine by attending medical school for 5 years without a single lecture on herbal medicine, than a medical herbalist who completes a four year full time course in herbal medicine, often with a background in medical science or nursing!
If your GP is treating you for a condition then you should discuss your plans with him/her before treating it over the counter with herbal medicine or another complementary therapy. This is particularly important if you are taking medication. However it is important to remember that as well as being a resource of factual information, GP's are individuals with their own opinion. |

Changing the quantity: If you decide you want more or less of an item, go to "View Basket" and change the quantity. Then click "Update". Removing a purchase: If you change you mind about a product, go to "View Basket" and change the quantity to zero. Then click "Update". Confirming a payment: When you are happy about the contents of your trolley, click "Checkout". You will be now be taken through a couple of steps with the protection of SSL security (see "Security" below), and the page on which you enter them will display the familiar secure site padlock. The first is to give us your name and address details including phone and email contact. This is so that we can automatically confirm receipt of your order by email, and speak to you by phone if there is a problem with your order or payment. We don't pass on your details elsewhere (see "Privacy" below). Next you are asked for your credit card details. |
