Perspiring or sweating is one of the major routes of toxin elimination in the body, especially in the armpit. The elimination of toxins throughout the day is important; Perspiring also aids in regulating the temperature of the body and balancing the body's salt levels.
Many anti-perspirants act through the use of aluminium based substances, which prevent perspiration by blocking the sweat pores. In order to be small enough to fit into the skin's pores the aluminium salts are also small enough to be absorbed by the body. There have been suggestions that these aluminium salts may affect an individual's health.
Body odour (commonly referred to as BO) is not due to sweat, but due to bacteria that breed in the sweat. Therefore most natural deodorants act to prevent the odour from occurring by preventing bacterial growth, rather than purely masking the smell (perfume).
